Memphis has the fourth poorest school system in the country.
Two-thirds of students in Memphis are not proficient in reading. A student who does not read at grade level by the 4th grade is four times less likely to graduate from high school.
50 percent of urban children in Memphis will drop out before graduating from high school… 68 percent of those will go to prison.
A child’s zip code shouldn’t determine his or her educational future. Therefore, our vision at Christ Church is to partner with students and teachers in the Binghampton neighborhood to impact children from Pre-K through their high school graduation. To accomplish this, members have built relationships in four different schools and numerous after-school ministries that provide educational services.
Last year on Blessing of the Backpacks Sunday, Christ Church collected an entire order of supplies, allowing the schools to reallocate those expenses elsewhere. View this insert for ways you can help this year. Thank you for being part of this incredible Sunday!
