Guest post by Mackay Lee, Director, Student Ministries/Middle School

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

While Student Ministry programming is going to look different this summer, different does not have to equal disappointment or discouragement. In the midst of this unique season, there is good—the door has been opened for new and exciting opportunities and possibilities for us to connect online together this summer! Some elements will be new, and some will be very familiar. Even though this summer might look or feel different, it is still going to be meaningful, memorable and fun!

Summer programming will kick off Monday, June 1 and go through Sunday, July 26. Listed below are ways that middle and high school students can connect with others and grow in their faith this summer:

Lunch Club & Game Gathering | Mondays | Noon-1 p.m. | Zoom
Students will gather together with Student Ministry staff where we will have Lunch Club “together” and play games over Zoom. This time will give students a chance to check in with friends, as well as have fun together, participating in games or activities like Scattegories, Jackbox and Kahoot or Would You Rather questions. Students will also have the opportunity to share any “Quarantine Tips” they might have, as well as Scripture that is serving as encouragement for them during this season.

Once a month during this time, girls will meet with our female staff and guys with our male staff for lunch and a book/movie club. Students will have the opportunity to fellowship over lunch and discuss a movie or book together.

Serving Challenge | Mondays | Announce in Parent Email & Social Media
Every Monday, we will send out a serving challenge in our weekly parent email and social media. Students can partake in the challenge and text a picture to any Student Ministry staff member. Students who participate will be entered into a raffle to win a gift card from a local restaurant. Drawings and the announcement of the raffle winner will take place every Monday at Lunch Club & Game Gathering.

Refuge MS & HS Bible Study | Wednesdays | 7-8 p.m. | Zoom
On Wednesday nights, two Bible studies will be offered—one for middle school students and one for high school students. For our summer Refuge Bible study series, we will work through the book of Psalms. Each week, students will study a psalm that focuses on the topic of rest, each one serving as a reminder that God is a loving Father who protects and provides for His children.

Digital Sunday School Lessons
For our summer Sunday school series, we are also going to continue our study of the book of Psalms. This series will focus on the topic of prayer. Each week, students will study a prayer from Psalms that focuses on a different topic. These prayers will help equip students to find words and ways to approach God when we find ourselves in a particular situation.

We are excited about this online format because it also provides flexibility. This model is something that can be implemented for the entire summer. However, Student Ministry staff members have also crafted some in-person programming options for the month of July, should we be able to gather in small groups. Once we have more clarity on what July will look like, we will send out a summer programming update.

While Student Ministries will look different this summer, there are so many good opportunities that can come from doing things differently! We hope students will join us!
