160 students + 41 leaders + 14 host homes = Youth Encounter Weekend

If you ask students who attended Youth Encounter Weekend (YEW) about their experience, you will likely hear comments similar to these made on student surveys:

“I think that this weekend was the best weekend of my life.”

“So much fun and learned a lot. I’m definitely coming back next year.”

Youth Encounter Weekend (YEW) is a time of year that is always looked forward to in Student Ministry. It’s a retreat weekend that is all in-house and always a fun time. This year, our theme was Consumed. We looked at the nature of our hearts and how we consume ourselves with so many things that change so often. We have worries, relationships, images  and even ‘stuff’ with which we consume ourselves.

Our speaker, Clayton King, called us back to being consumed with Jesus, who doesn’t change.

Visible Band kicked off the weekend with an awesome set of covers which is always popular with our students. They also led us in worship throughout the weekend which included a scavenger hunt at the zoo, food trucks, games and laughter. We ended the weekend with a huge potluck dinner with all the families involved.

Ultimately, we had an encounter with Jesus. There were 42 new commitments.

That is the whole point of what we do…more students for Jesus!
