Stan Harding and Kerwin Trussell are long-time D-Group leaders, faithfully serving the same group of boys as they progressed through the Student Ministry. Stan started co-teaching the boys nine years ago when they were in 4th grade, and Kerwin began serving as a D-Group leader six years ago.
Both men believe it’s important to find a place to serve. “I don’t think anyone can follow Christ without serving,” Stan said. “By serving, I built lasting relationships with our boys and was able to share with them my heart and see God moving among them.”
For Kerwin, serving has taught him to trust God more in every situation in addition to being an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. “There are definite rewards for regularly going outside one’s comfort zone,” he said. “Our responsibility as Christians is to plant the seeds, and God will reap the harvest.”
According to these D-group leaders, there’s an extra blessing in the longevity. “I can’t describe the joy of seeing our young men stick together, support each other and serve others together,” Stan said. “I expect to be involved with these young men for years to come. If you don’t get involved you’ll really miss out on seeing beautiful things happen.”
>>Looking for a way to make a difference in a student’s life this year? There are numerous ways to get involved with our Student Ministry.
Student Ministry needs include:
- D-Group Leader: Sundays, 5-7 p.m. or Wednesdays, 6-7:45 p.m.
D-Group Leaders are in charge of helping students grow in maturity through dedicated discipleship time in and out of church. This is the most important aspect of service in Student Ministry and is richly rewarding relationally and spiritually.

Sunday Morning Teachers help by preparing lessons and leading our students into a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

Help greet people, serve donuts and have fun with students.
- Refuge Support: Sundays, 5-7 p.m. or Wednesdays, 6-7:45 p.m.
Help Student Ministry staff on Sunday nights or Wednesday nights at Refuge. Help us create a fun atmosphere as a greeter, tech support person or by serving food.
- Student Transportation
