Last year, the Christ Church nursery sponsored the first Love Your Neighbor Drive where children collected items to make blessing bags for the homeless.
In addition to helping the homeless, this is a great way to teach children how they can be the hands and feet of Jesus.
They recently completed the second Love Your Neighbor Drive. During February, they collected items, and on Sunday, Feb. 24, children and volunteers packed 61 bags.
Items in the bags include: warm socks/gloves/scarves, hand/foot warmer packets, individual-sized tissues, bottled water, granola bars, crackers, travel toiletries/hand sanitizer, nail clippers, mints/gum, individual first aid kits, cough drops and lip balm.
Each child went home with a bag to hand out when they see a homeless person around town. The remaining bags were given to the front desk for them to hand out as people come to the church with a need.
“A HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers and those who donated and helped stuff bags,” said Nursery Coordinator Amanda McCleskey. “God is moving here in these tiny hearts. Praise be to God for the good things He has done, will do and is doing!”
