Empowered people. Thriving communities.
SOS was the first organization founded by Christ Church in 1986 with the purpose of improving the quality of life in Binghampton. Since its inception, SOS has repaired more than 900 homes in the inner city of Memphis with more than 24,000 volunteers. SOS has continued to grow its original mission of coming alongside economically disadvantaged homeowners in Binghampton and Orange Mound to make their homes warmer, safer and drier through student camps.
How It Works:
Through partnerships with other organizations and residents within the communities SOS serves, SOS helps play a vital role in the holistic Christian community development of these neighborhoods.
The Gospel is at the heart of all of SOS’ work and motivation. SOS believes Jesus didn’t just preach the Word but rather coupled it with deeds. One is not the means to the other; both have equal weight.
Ways to Serve:
SOS Camp: Christ Church students will serve at SOS June 25-30, doing home repair—mostly roofing—for homeowners in Binghampton. It’s a week where students learn a great deal about being the hands and feet of Christ, and hopefully it serves as a launching point for living a lifestyle of service.
SOS Adopt-a-Week: Don’t let our students have all the fun at SOS! Sign up to support students and staff through various roles including laundry, meal serving, popsicle delivery and more!

SOS Builds (school year): This is an after-school program at Lester Prep Middle School in Binghampton. Each year, SOS Builds students have the opportunity to construct and design a project in Binghampton in order to bring more value to the community.
