By Rachel Brannen, Christ Church Summer Resident

I served on Service Over Self’s summer staff in 2015, and it was easily one of the greatest experiences of my life. It was hard work at times and some days were insanely hot on those roofs, but it was all worth it because I learned more than I ever thought I could about the Lord, myself, the staff, the campers and the Binghampton community. SOS challenged me in many ways and also reminded me not to worry so much about earthly things because they are temporary, but heaven is forever. I also learned that just because some people may have more material things than others does not make them better than anyone else. We are all broken and in need of a Savior.

Being surrounded by a staff of college students who were all on fire for Jesus and living for Him was a special thing to be part of. Spending my summer serving others opened my eyes and changed my heart. I encourage everyone to participate in SOS in whatever way you can – whether as a volunteer, camper, leader or staff member. SOS will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am eternally thankful for it and everything it stands for.
