image1Orphan ministry, adoption, and foster care are all a huge part of who and I am in Christ and who my family is. We have three adopted children and were foster parents to six children. Our lives have been so touched by this in so many ways. I know not all people are “called” to adopt or foster a child. But we are all called by God to care for them. James 1:27 says “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.” He calls His people to join Him in this care, sharing His passion for orphans and bringing to each child the love of Jesus Christ in both word and deed.

All adoption comes with great loss. Without rupture there can be no redemption. God is redeeming lives of His precious children. Children in Shelby County and around this city and world are coming into state custody at an alarming rate! In spite of this alarming rate, many are reluctant to become foster and/or adoptive parents due to feeling unqualified and unprepared.

Opening September 11, Memphis Family Connection Center recognizes this need and seeks to provide Christ-centered, holistic, trauma related training, counseling, therapeutic services and referrals to local foster and adoptive families. This new ministry partner of CUMC is opening its own center and needs your help! The next few weeks at the MFCC will be a whirlwind, and there are plenty of ways that you can get involved. Sign up here to pick a time to lay carpet, build furniture, paint, or find other ways to help prepare the building for its launch. Unable to volunteer? Contact Laura Greenwell for more information about the ways to get involved with the Orphan Care ministry at Christ Church.
