Guest post by Josh Smith, Director of Worship and Production
Having worked both at SOS and The Orchard in Oxford, Matthew Clark has been a familiar face to Christ Church members for several years. He and his wife Katie share a house with former CUMC staff member Abbye Pates and her husband Jeff, and they have been attending The Table since its launch last year. As you may know, Abbye released original music not too long ago, and now Matthew has released a new album just this week, available on iTunes and Amazon. Read an excellent review here.
Bright Came the Word from His Mouth is an original storytelling album inspired by The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament, authored by Old Testament scholar and Christ College adjunct faculty member Dr. Sandra Richter.
Christ Church is blessed to host Matthew’s free album release concert on January 27 at 7pm in Seabrook Hall in conjunction with our new sermon series, entitled EPIC: The Story of God, which begins January 13. Shane’s desire with this series is to capture our imaginations with the story of Scripture in the hope that our congregation’s passion for the Word would be taken to new heights in 2013. We believe Bright Came the Word from His Mouth is the perfect soundtrack and devotional for this season in our worship.
In addition to the music, we’ve teamed up with the artist responsible for the beautiful artwork on Matthew’s album, Eugene Frost, to create new pieces, each of which illustrates one of Shane’s sermons in the series.
For an overview of the EPIC series visit www.cumcmemphis.org/series, where you’ll also find artist’s commentary on the illustrations, sneak a listen at the single Oh Eden, and purchase Matthew’s album.
