At the end of November, the ladies of Christ Church and their guests had a special evening of celebration. The weather was chilly, but Seabrook Hall was warm and beautifully decorated for our annual Holiday for Her. The event was a wonderful night of good food and fantastic fellowship–-a perfect time for us to pause and center ourselves in Christ before entering into the busy time of Christmas. Led by Bethany Barr Phillips, the worship and music were inspiring and uplifting. Bethany was a student intern at Christ Church, so it was a time of homecoming for her as she reconnected with old friends. She delighted the crowd with favorite Christmas carols and moved our hearts with her testimony.
The mission opportunity for the evening was Life Choices, a Christ Church ministry partner. Christ Church member and Life Choices Director of Specialized Counseling Amanda Perry explained the services Life Choices offers and brought baby bottles for us to fill with change, small bills and checks to support the ministry.
We were so happy to welcome special guests. Ladies from Grays Creek Church in Arlington, Christ Methodist Day School EEP teachers, Christ Church nursery workers, Student Ministry D-Group leaders and young women from our middle school and high school ministry were in attendance. A few even younger ladies joined us, too. We had a few elementary and kindergarten sweethearts who came with moms and grandmothers; they were dancing in the aisles and warming our hearts!
A special thanks goes to Leigh Anne Parker for a fabulous job of decorating all the tables and the stage, the Women’s Ministry Council for their help and too many volunteers to count who worked behind the scenes to make the evening perfect!
Here’s what two attendees said about the evening:
Holiday for Her was such a special night for the ladies in my family this year! Having my former intern, Bethany Barr Phillips, back in the very church where we met about 13 years ago was such a sweet moment. She invested so much time that summer in me and around my family. To reminisce on the past and delight in the present was a blast. Certainly the holiday season is about times like these–-bringing family and friends together to worship, fellowship and delight in our risen Savior’s birth! – Ashley Hudsmith Abby
I like how the dinner was done. Everyone enjoyed the food! Bethany Barr Phillips was so great! That is the first time I have heard her! Decorations were perfect! Don’t have any critiques at this time. I think everyone had a fabulous time of fellowship and worship! Like you said, the event put me in a better mindset for the holidays. I enjoyed so much of being a part of it and helping in the kitchen and serving.
