We’re excited to welcome Don Alsup to the Christ Church staff as Technical Media Engineer. Don came on staff just days before the pandemic’s ‘Safer at Home’ order, and there is no doubt about God’s timing in his addition to the staff.

Don prepares for and produces the 9:45 a.m. worship service. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Don has been filming and producing video for the contemporary and the traditional services that can be seen on live stream, Facebook and YouTube.

Don has a background in radio and media production. For more than 12 years, he worked (six days a week) live on the air for a number of stations in the Memphis market. Formats included Christian, Country, News Talk, Christian Talk and Jazz. He hosted the popular For Young at Heart Only radio request show for two and a half years.

For almost three decades, Don worked for Shelby Systems ministry software. He served in just about every area of technology including support, training, programming and creative writing. He wrote, produced, directed and hosted a video podcast for Shelby Systems for 10 years. Guests included Zig Ziglar, Coach Bobby Bowden and Big Daddy Weave. During his last 20 years of service at Shelby Systems, Don maintained all of Shelby’s audio/video production needs and wrote for their social media outlets.

In 2016, Don created a documentary about the child development center that Shelby Systems sponsors in El Salvador. It was a life-changing experience where everyone had the chance to meet their sponsor child and spend the day with them.

Until recently (for three years), Don was a volunteer with the media team at Faith Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon.

Don graduated from the University of Memphis in 1984 with a degree in communications (radio/TV/film). He has been married to his wife Debbie for more than 25 years.

Trivia: Don appeared in the Oscar-nominated 20th Century Fox motion picture Walk the Line.

Welcome, Don! We’re glad to have you as part of the Christ Church staff!
