The following update is from Eric A., Director of International Missions at Christ Church, who is traveling in an undisclosed location in North Africa.

There, along with four others from North America and several indigenous leaders, are helping lead a conference to train, equip and encourage believers from several nations in the region.

The location is being withheld for the security and safety of the leaders and participants.

Greetings from North Africa!

It is truly a blessing to be here representing CUMC at this gathering. As I sit down to write this morning, International Missions at CUMCwe are already feeling the effects of being in a location that is generally opposed to the spread of the Gospel and Christianity.Several of our brothers from surrounding nations have found it difficult to obtain the necessary documents to enter the country. Even so, God is in control and it looks like we will have representation from 4 nations by the time the gathering begins tonight!

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to meet and work with believers from another nation in the region. Those men and women had a vision to reach neighboring countries with Gospel, raising up leaders that would carry the message and equip believers to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

The gathering that begins tonight is the result of their hard work and prayers. Our brothers in this region of the world have a deep understanding of what it meant when Jesus told his followers that “whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” They face the risk of real persecution and, in some cases, even death because of their faith in Christ.

Even so, they know that only they have the access and ability to make disciples of the nations in this region of the world, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that Christ has taught them. It is clear to me as I sit here today, that Jesus is fulfilling His promise to be with them always, to the end of the age.

Please join us in prayer over the next week as we walk with our brothers and sisters here.

Pray that they would be encouraged and equipped to follow the path that Lord has put before them.
