Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it by yourself. It is not far. It is within reach. Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know. –Walt Whitman
Confirmation classes are a two-month journey that our sixth grade students embark on, where we ask and discuss basic faith formation questions. Through studying these questions, we are able to learn more about and grow in our faith. Students are encouraged to engrave these basic Christian truths on their hearts and minds and are then given the opportunity to emerge from this journey as an individual who commits to make the Christian faith his or her own faith and to live out these truths in their everyday lives.
This year’s Confirmation journey has been filled with noise, laughter, silly games, team bonding and genuine fellowship and growth in faith. We had roughly 76 sixth graders participate in our faith formation classes (hence where all of the noise came from!). On Sunday, 70 of these students will take the step to make a public proclamation that the Christian faith is now their own.
A memorable experience that took place during this journey was our Confirmation Retreat at Victory Ranch. We were able to experience God, whether it was in our class time, singing songs led by our student band or praying to God as we propelled ourselves down a zip line from the top of a climbing wall! Take a look at these pictures that captured our weekend.
Overall, Confirmation 2016 has been an incredible experience, allowing each student to grow in relationship with one another and with his or her Creator and Savior. However, this journey would not have been possible without our 10th grade table leaders and adult leaders. A BIG shout out to you all for making Confirmation 2016 a meaningful and memorable experience! Pray for these confirmands in the days ahead, and join us for Confirmation Sunday, Feb. 28.
