Excitement is building as final preparations are made for this year’s VBS, June 18-21. For Director Dawn Weaver, VBS has been an important part of her life since childhood. “I am passionate about VBS because I accepted Christ during Vacation Bible School when I was in 3rd grade. I still remember walking down the aisle that day and praying the prayer of salvation,” she said. “Children are sponges for information and eager to hear the Word of God. This is the perfect time to introduce them to Christ.”
Dawn, an elementary art teacher, has served at Christ Church’s VBS for 18 out of the last 19 years. She first served as elementary shepherd, then moved to elementary craft coordinator for the next 10 years. She has also assisted as teen volunteer coordinator, art curriculum writer/leader, assistant craft leader and GAP shepherd. This is her third year to serve as VBS director.
“VBS is a church-wide effort. It takes a village to hand out 400 yards of nametags, serve 9,000 gummy snacks and 3,000 cups of juice, play 100 rounds of a game, pass out 1,000 T-shirts and pray for more than 700 children and volunteers—all in four days!”
Volunteers are still needed, and Dawn said there’s a place for everyone to serve. “We all have talents. It could be through art, music, prayer, playing games, holding babies, cutting, packing or donating items. We would love for you to contribute your talents to VBS.”
