July 24 marked the the first in the new Serving & Outreach Equipping Series. Brian P. from the Arabian Peninsula led a combination of instruction and table discussion regarding how to engage our Muslim neighbors and coworkers in a conversation about the gospel.
CUMC member Barbara Dooley shares her thoughts about the evening:
Understanding our Muslim Neighbors

INTERESTING, INFORMATIONAL, INSPIRING, INVOLVING are the words that immediately come to mind to describe Brian P’s presentation, “The Gospel for Muslims.”

The session began with “Ten Facts You Need To Know About Muslims” followed by response questions for table groups that caused us to examine our attitudes, beliefs and values.

We were then enlightened by facts about the history of Islam, beliefs that are shared with Christians and differences.

The most challenging part of the evening was the instruction about how thoroughly we need to know our Christian faith in order to engage in sharing with others.

Throughout the two-hour session Brian P. demonstrated how thoroughly he knows Scripture and presents the gospel. I left the church with new information inspired to increase my ability to share my faith.

TO CONTINUE THIS IMPORTANT CONVERSATION about how Christians understand and relate to our Muslim neighbors, we invite you to join us for an upcoming book study beginning on Wednesday August 21, from 6:15-7:30 in Wilson/Ross 413.
The Gospel for Muslims by Thabiti AnyabwileIn his book The Gospel for Muslims, Anyabwile Thabiti writes, “Increasingly, God seems pleased to bring the Muslim world right to our doorsteps. The work of cross-cultural evangelism and missions has never been more accessible … we may yet be the generation that sees history’s greatest revival among Muslim peoples.”
Does Thabiti’s statement resonate with you? Do you desire to be in genuine relationship with your Muslim friends and neighbors? Have you had conversations with a Muslim friend and felt ill-equipped to share the gospel with them?
As we study Thabiti’s book together, we will discuss what it really means to “Love like Jesus” among our Muslim friends.
Books will be provided on August 21 and donations to cover their price accepted.
