There’s so much to celebrate as we’ve seen God at work in and through the life of our church this year. Below are just a few highlights as we close out 2019. Please consider us in your year-end giving, and if you have yet to turn in your commitment card for giving in 2020, you can do that here. THANK YOU! Your gifts really do matter.
Sanctuary Renovation/Campus Repairs
We celebrated and consecrated the re-opening of our Sanctuary. Improvements included: new HVAC systems, lighting & controls, ceiling repairs, new slate flooring, stained glass window repairs, hallway finishes, new pews, complete overhaul of the organ and remodeled restrooms. Upgrades were also made in Seabrook Hall, restroom renovations near Wilson Chapel/Parlor and a new floor in Beaty Gym. Other work completed on campus included new roofs, caulking upgrades, installation of LED lighting, sidewalk repairs and structural repairs to Rash Hall.
Our 28-member Mexico/YUGO team built two houses and helped with VBS all while growing in relationships with one another and, most importantly, with the families they were serving. From grandmothers taking their grandchildren to entire family units traveling abroad together, this trip continues to be a blessing to all involved. Another team traveled to Uganda to work in one of the world’s largest refugee camps, and teams also traveled to Costa Rica to serve with Rice and Beans Ministry and Amigos de la Fe. Signups for the Spring Break 2020 trip to Costa Rica are underway now. Click here for more details.
Cup of Nations Soccer Tournament
With 16 countries participating, this event provides a unique opportunity to love on our neighbors from around the world who live right here at our doorstep. Christ Church sponsored Team China, providing an opportunity to support our brothers and sisters in Christ who worship on our campus each week at the Chinese Church meeting in Reeves Chapel.
Power Up VBS
Through songs, crafts, games, Bible verse memory, snacks and worship, more than 350 children discovered how a powerful relationship with God through Jesus can change their life and raise their game! This happened thanks to the support of 170 adult and student volunteers who gave of their time to love, pray for and serve the VBS children.
This year 32 students were confirmed including two who were baptized on Confirmation Sunday. The goal of Confirmation is to focus on the foundation of our Christian faith and how it affects our lives, with a special emphasis on how it influences our commitment to the church. In addition to our confirmands, 52 people joined our church this year.
7th Annual Senior Adult Banquet
The 250 guests plus 20 servers experienced God’s presence as guest worship leader Don Moen shared in prose and music. The special guests of the evening were our six Charter Members who attended as well as the 130 senior adults who have been Christ Church members for 50+ years.
Memphis Joy Prom
April 26 was an Evening to Remember for the 200 guests of the special needs community of the Mid-South as Memphis Joy Prom wrapped up its sixth year of this full-scale prom celebration. From providing guests with dresses and tuxes to red carpet walks to photo booths to a live band, no detail is untouched. This year Memphis Joy Prom guest registration filled up within five hours!
In just one semester of ministry, our Young Adults Ministry has been able to connect with a weekly small group of food, fun and Jesus. Hosting hangout nights ranging from Friendsgiving to live worship concerts, the Lord is connecting college students all the way to post-grads working all over the city. The group is already growing into a family while keeping the doors open to anyone who wants to be a part. With almost 40 young adults connected here in Memphis, and more than 60 college students receiving care packages through our college care package ministry, we are excited to see what God will do as we begin our second semester in January.
