Our time at BreakThru this year was a special one for many reasons. BreakThru 2018 marked their 40th year of ministry. To celebrate, they kicked off a two-day series of competitions called “BT Blast” (Go, Red team!), sold special edition shirts and brought in a well-loved, veteran BreakThru speaker, Adam Robinson. On top of all this fun, the students also got to see one of their favorite people, Ty Garvey!
While the weather was between 10˚- 20˚ for most of the weekend, the students’ (and adults’) love and excitement for BreakThru was not dimmed. It was amazing to see students meeting new friends, growing closer to those in their own small groups and learning about Jesus through the lens of Time. They learned that the past is redeemed, the future is promised and the present has purpose.
BreakThru has a special bell in the middle of the campground that is only to be rung by someone who has just accepted Jesus for the first time. We were excited and overwhelmed to have multiple students ring the bell over the course of the weekend!
At the end of every BreakThru we have a meeting as a whole youth group where students share what they learned or how God spoke to them throughout the course of the weekend, followed by having communion together. It was amazing to hear stories of newly formed friendships, ringing the bell and encouragement from the older students to the younger students.
We would not have had a successful BreakThru without our amazing and dedicated small group leaders! From current D-Group leaders to former Christ Church students, we had a really solid group who walked alongside our students as they processed and discussed all that they were hearing from the speaker. We are so thankful to have people like them to pour into our students!
