In February 2019, God moved in a mighty way as hundreds of churches and tens of thousands of people set aside an entire month to pray and fast for every person—by name—living in the Greater Nashville Area. Awaken, this city-wide movement of prayer and fasting, focused on unifying the Church to strategically pray for and bless the city, one person at a time.

In the months that followed, God moved in amazing ways across the city, and similar prayer movements began to spring up in cities across the nation and even around the world. In the wake of that incredible season, many leaders began to seek God with regard to what was next as they prayed for the people in their cities and beyond.

Through this, Awaken spread to Memphis and other Tennessee cities, and you are invited to join the movement. Senior Pastor Shane Stanford has placed an emphasis on prayer in our church. This is an opportunity for us to fast and pray for others around us.

In 2019, participants covered an entire city by praying for people they didn’t know. In 2020, participants will cover their cities and far beyond by praying for people they do know. The prayer focus for 2020 is simple: We are asking Jesus to help us live out the greatest commandments—to love God and to love others—among the people we know.

This month-long journey of prayer and fasting from January 26 through February 23 will take place wherever you are located day-in and day-out. This is about mobilizing the Church to pray for and bless our city in the places we live, work and play each day.

If you want to fast and pray, pick up one of the yellow packets located on tables outside Seabrook/Wilson Chapel and in the Sanctuary/Narthex. Each packet includes two books—Revival Starts Here and Jesus Next Door—and a journal to assist you.

Ladies: Here’s another opportunity for you to join with others throughout the nation to pray. Join the women of Christ Church in a nationwide prayer movement, She Loves Out Loud. Mark your calendar for Saturday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. as we gather with other women at Bellevue Baptist Church while others gather from coast to coast. Our nation, our church and our families need prayer now more than ever. Won’t you join us? Visit to learn more or contact Laura Greenwell or Stephanie Powell
