If you stop by the EMC on Fridays this summer, you will hear sounds of joy and praise from Summer Club participants. Sponsored by Joy Life 901, which is a collaboration of ministries in the Mid-South through our Special Needs Ministry, Summer Club includes a devotional, crafts, worship and lunch. Space is limited to 40 people, and the spots always fill up quickly.
“It’s a time where people can feel a sense of belonging as well as God’s presence by the love our volunteers and leadership team show to each participant,” said Ashley Parks, Special Needs Ministry Director. “People can be themselves and share in this safe place.”
Here’s what some participants love about Summer Club:
Ben loves it because we talk about ‘The Great King’ and the good God.
Patrick loves being with his friends.
Sam loves to be a leader there and use his talents for safety and teaching.
David loves to be a part of setting up and serving food to his friends.
“God has shown us that we are not here to serve only those individuals with disabilities but also their families, our volunteers and each other,” Ashley said. “It’s amazing to be a part of this wonderful ‘quilt’ that God has knitted together. It’s a sweet family to be a part of.”
